The President’s Office asked me to respond to your note about a speaker recently invited to campus by a student group.
A student group invited the speaker, not UCF. It is important to know that a student group’s invitation to a speaker does not mean the university endorses the speaker’s background or comments. Rather, it means the university supports students’ rights to free speech and an open exchange of ideas.
The video you reference was not part of the presentation, as far as I am aware.
Additionally, student groups are not funded using taxpayer funds, and this event was held in a facility built and maintained by student fees, not taxpayer funds.
I understand that this might not assuage your concerns, but I hope these facts help answer any questions you had about the university’s role. And I can assure you that UCF is aware of the concerns you, and many others, have shared with us.
